Ashcroft resigns
This should be good news, but it means that Ashcroft gets to quit while pretending that he did a good job, and that Bush gets to appoint someone who will be even more hardline and almost certainly better at getting things done. After all, John Ashcroft is claiming that he’s made Americans safe from terror, despite his Justice Department not actually convicting any terrorists during his time in office. If the Attorney General is going to be evil, it’s better if he’s incompetent too.
