Bait and switch

Some excellent thoughts on the future (look down in the comments) from a very talented game designer named D. Vincent Baker. I think he’s got the wealthy elite plutocrats pretty much figured out.

People in my workplace are concerned about social issues, especially abortion and same-sex marriage. They’re concerned about social conservatives in the Supreme Court.

Not me!

See, here’s the thing. The Republicans don’t want to overturn Roe v. Wade or ban same-sex marriage. They don’t care about that stuff. They’re only using those issues to win the (vast) rube vote. It’s a bait and switch. In fact they don’t have a social agenda at all: they have an economic one.

Bait: vote for us and we’ll turn back the clock.

They need those issues to stay controversial and threatening. If they overturn Roe v. Wade, they lose votes. If they ban same-sex marriage, they lose votes. If they lose votes, they don’t get to do what they want to do: get rich off of our labor.

Switch: increasing economic stratification, increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of guess who.

In the next four years, look for more of what we’ve been getting: symbolic but ineffective threats to abortion rights and same sex marriage, non-symbolic and very effective threats to labor. Labor top to bottom, from education to social security. Look for your boss to make more profit off of your work, look for your debts to increase, look for your benefits to dwindle, your working conditions to worsen, your job security to disappear (if it hasn’t already). If you have to work to survive, you’re over a barrel and you can expect it to keep getting worse.

That’s what I’m worried about. I’m trying to provide for a family here. I’d be a lot happier if I weren’t over such a barrel.

And that’s why, if you vote republican but aren’t already rich, you’re showing yourself to be a bigot and an ignoramus. A rube. They won’t give you what you voted for, nobody can turn back the clock. Instead they’re gonna take your (and all our) money. Think next time, dummy.
