Choosing employees and customers over shareholders

Over on Pandagon there’s an interesting piece about the differences between Costco (which apparently doesn’t try to screw over either its employees or its customers) and places like Walmart (which do). It also talks about how Wall Street would like to see all of that end, in the name of shareholder value.

You know, I used to think that all of those places were the same, but I was wrong. If you’re a club warehouse shopper, and you’ve got a choice in your area between a Sam’s Club and a Costco, I’d say go with the latter.
