Trying to muzzle the media

Apparently the CIA wants to see journalists and media outlets who publish leaked information from government officials punished if that information turns out to be classified. It’s an attempt to kick the media while it’s down, and another fine example of the current U.S. government’s contempt for that pesky Bill of Rights.

As Tom Rosenstiel of the Committee of Concerned Journalists commented:

Let’s be blunt. These guys really don’t believe in the 1st Amendment. They believe in secrecy, not sunshine, they believe in control, not pluralism. They want to intimidate and chill the press, and they want to criminalize the free flow of discussion, and they want to use September 11 as the lever to do this.
