“American soldiers killed at least 10 Iraqis and wounded dozens of others yesterday when they reportedly fired on a political rally in Mosul. ‘There are perhaps 100 wounded and 10 or 12 dead,’ said Ayad al-Ramadhani, director of the Republican Hospital in Mosul.” – Independent

The U.S. has, of course, denied that they shot at the crowd, and claimed that they were instead firing on two gunmen on top of a nearby building. The witnesses on the scene agree with this, but say that the Americans then began firing into the crowd when stones were thrown at them.

UPDATE: Steve over at Daily Kos has posted a quote from the New York Times with more details about the shooting, along with some interesting analysis of the situation. [And yes, I did just start reading Daily Kos on a regular basis....]
