First the museum, now the library

After failing to prevent the sacking of the Iraqi National Museum, the U.S. troops have now failed to prevent the sacking and burning of both the National Library and Archives and the nearby library of Korans at the Ministry of Religious Endowment (which reportedly contained one of the oldest surviving copies of the Koran).

Now, screwing up the first time was bad enough, especially since it’s now come to light that the Pentagon had been warned about the risk of looting before the war, but twice is either complete incompetence or malice.
