“Nothing is more important in the face of war than cutting taxes”

That’s what House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said recently, while he was taking advantage of the current war-time support for Bush to push through a budget featuring big tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. It’s a pretty strange comment, since never in the last century has a President requested a tax cut during a war. It seems though that the current crop of leaders in Washington isn’t willing to relinquish their belief in supply-side voodoo economics, even while spending vast sums of money on a war (and even more on the post-war rebuilding of Iraq).
