Lunasa at The Iron Horse Music Hall

On Sunday, Jenn and I made another trip up to the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA, this time to see Lunasa.

We’d seen Lunasa perform several times before, usually at either the Towne Crier or the University of Hartford, but this was our first time seeing them at the Iron Horse. Given how much we usually enjoy their concerts, we were expecting another great show, and we weren’t disappointed. The boys were in great form, and played for about two hours all told. Many of the tunes were from their new album, Sé, which I haven’t picked up yet (largely because of the bounty of new trad CDs Jenn brought me back from Ireland a couple of weeks ago), and the new material sounded good. I’d been looking forward to seeing how the band’s newest member, guitarist Paul Meehan, would fit in, and I’m happy to say that he did a fine job. Of course, it being a Lunasa show, Kevin Crawford’s wit was one of the highlights of the evening, and he was in rare form, even for him.

All in all, it was a really excellent show and a very fun time. I’ll definitely be looking forward to my next chance to see them play, though I’ll be hoping that next time I won’t have to suffer through the Iron Horse’s poor excuse for a menu to do it.

    Jenn bought me:

Various — An Gaoth Aduaidh (The North Wind) – Solo Flute Playing From The Irish Tradition
Harry Bradley, Jesse Smith, John Blake — The Tap Room Trio
Brid O’Donohue — Tobar an Duchais

All of which I’m enjoying a lot.

poor excuse for a menu? dude, it’s bar food, not fine dining! ;)

i was sad about missing lunasa going on this little trip of mine, but i’m having fun out here in the chicago area so it’s okay.

The food used to be better and there used to be more items to choose from. In fact, I used to look forward to the burgers. Now I daren’t risk eating them. I’d settle for bar food. Honest. I just want it to be good bar food. What they’re serving now really detracts from the venue itself. I’d rather they served nothing at all and just had later shows so I could eat somewhere else.

Glad to hear you had a good trip to Chicago and enjoyed yourself.
