Here’s my schedule for this year’s The Black Road:

Slot 1, Friday 1pm-5pm
Le Cygne: The Lost Swan of Amber
GMs: Ginger Stampley and Michael Croft

I’m looking forward to actually gaming with the famous Ginger and Michael.

Slot 2, Friday 7pm-Midnight
GM (with Jennifer Jackson) — If You Can’t Take the Heat
Players:
Deb Atwood
Kevin Allen
Burr Rutledge
Julia Frizzell
Lou Evans
Matt Andrews
Bryant Durrell

We ran it with 8 players at ACUS, and it was a blast, so hopefully it’ll go just as well this time around.

Slot 3, Saturday 10am-4pm
GM — Nine Losers in Akron
Players:
Jack Gulick
Kevin Allen
Lou Evans
Jeff Trumitch
Bryant Durrell
Kris Kunkel

I’m glad there were six people sick enough to want to play this game. *grin*

Slot 4, Saturday 7pm-Midnight
My Life with Corwin
GM: Jack Gulick

My Life With Master run by Jack, and so probably the game I’m most looking forward to this con.

Slot 5, Sunday 10am-2pm
GM — The Jewel of Zhong Kui
Players:
Lou Evans
Jennifer Jackson
Jack Gulick
Kevin Allen

I expect this will be a fun time for all involved, especially since I already know I’m likely to have players for both Jackie and Jade.

Now that the new gamebook is officially up, here are the games I’ll be running (or co-running) at TBR 2004.

If You Can’t Take the Heat
GMs: Michael Curry and Jennifer Jackson
Number of Players: 6-8
Game type: Crossover

Famous chefs and food personalities have been collected from Shadow Earth and brought to Amber by Florimel. They’re here to participate in a cooking competition that will decide who will take the head position in the kitchens of Amber. Of course, they’re used to the intense rivalry of the culinary world, but, given the often devious nature of those who call Amber Castle home, they may be forced to rely on more than just their gastronomic skills to succeed.

This went ridiculously well when we ran it at ACUS, so hopefully it’ll go well again.

Nine Losers in Akron
GM: Michael Curry
Number of Players: 4-8
Game type: Recast

f***. looks like one of the f***ers who hates dad finally decided to do something about it. granddad says he was down at the 7-11 last night buying his f***ing lameass porno mags, when he saw a couple of big guys dragging your dad into some beat-up panel van and driving off. a**holes. you could call the cops, but those f***ers don’t really like anybody in your loser family, so they probably won’t f***ing do anything. f***. looks like it’s up to you to get dad back.

[This is a kill puppies for satan (http://www.septemberquestion.org/lumpley/puppies.html) game centering around a family made up of recast Amber Elders. Rules will be taught, but taking the time to check out the kpfs site before you sign up is strongly recommended. The game involves far too much foul language and plenty of things that are very wrong (like, you know, the puppy killing part), so consider yourself warned.]

Game uses the kill puppies for satan rules; rules will be taught; pregenerated characters will be provided

Yes, this really is just an excuse to run a Kill Puppies for Satan game at an Ambercon, but I think the Amber archetypes will translate over well, and hopefully a fun (if twisted) time will be had by all.

The Jewel of Zhong-Kui
GM: Michael Curry
Number of Players: 4-8
Game type: non-Amber

The day after the museum reception, a man dressed in monk’s robes appears at the door of Uncle’s Rare Finds. “The Jewel of Zhong Kui has been taken, and you must help me get it back….before it is too late!”

Ai-yaaa!!!

Players will take on the roles of Jackie, Uncle, Jade and the rest of the Jackie Chan Adventures gang, as they try to retrieve a stolen artifact and, as always, foil an evil plot. Some familiarity with the television series is highly recommended.

Pre-generated characters will be provided.

Planned as a fun, silly game, most likely using variants of the Feng Shui RPG templates (with the dice filed off) for the characters.

The new Ambercon North web page has been updated, and both registration and game submission are now open. I know I’m planning on heading up to Toronto again this year, and I’ll be hoping to see a lot of you there.

Just a quick reminder to those who may not have seen Jennifer’s post on AML, SoA, or the LJ adrpg community. The deadlines for TBR 2004 are approaching, with both registration and game submission closing on April 23rd. If you’ve been thinking about registering, or submitting a game, now is the time to do it.

There are already several ACUS 2004 writeups out there, but here’s my slightly belated take on things. I had a great time at the con, both during and between the games, and it was nice to get to spend time with old friends (and newer ones too).

My ACUS 2004 schedule

I got my Ambercon US schedule today:

Slot 2: Volunteer
Slot 3: “Tall Tales of Pattern and Shadow” by Jack Gulick
Slot 4: “Ill Met in Amber” by Christopher Kindred
Slot 5: “Love Like a Burning City” by Sarah Bear
Slot 6: GM ["If You Can't Stand the Heat"]
Slot 7: “Blaze of Glory: Laws of God and Man” by Sol Foster

I got both of my non-campaign first picks, so I’m pretty happy with how things worked out.

February 6, 2004: 6:58 pm: Cons

I had meant to post these the other day (when I actually sent in the selections), but here are the games I’ve picked for this year’s ACUS:.

Slot 1: Nothing

Slot 2: Volunteering

Slot 3: Tall Tales of Pattern and Shadow

Slot 4: Ill Met in Amber [returning with Captain Wesley Hobart]

Slot 5: Love Like a Burning City [I played in the first one in 2002, so I hope to bring back Nicodemus]

Slot 6: GMing If You Can’t Take the Heat with Jennifer Jackson

Slot 7: Blaze of Glory: Laws of God and Man [returning with Amir bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Nasir bin Safwan Al-Majiid (aka The Mad Arab)]

Slot 8: Nothing

Hopefully I’ll actually get into the non-campaign ones, but since I’m co-GMing (and volunteering), I expect I have a decent shot. I hope that week in March hurries up and gets here!

December 26, 2003: 2:06 pm: Cons

This week Jenn submitted a game we intend to run at ACUS 2004.

If You Can’t Take the Heat…

Players: 6-8
GMs: Jennifer Jackson and Michael Curry

Famous chefs and food personalities have been collected from Shadow Earth and brought to Amber by Florimel. They’re here to participate in a cooking competition that will decide who will take the head position in the kitchens of Amber. Of course, they’re used to the intense rivalry of the culinary world, but, given the often devious nature of those who call Amber Castle home, they may be forced to rely on more than just their gastronomic skills to succeed.

Players will choose from among well-known cooking celebrities such as Julia Child, Ina Garten (the Barefoot Contessa), Alton Brown, or one of the Iron Chefs, and the GMs are open to suggestions. Characters will be operated on a minimum of mechanics. No actual cooking skills required.

We’re planning on the game taking place during slot 6 (as that was the slot we both had open after campaigns and such were scheduled), so hopefully that’ll work out.

Right now it looks like the listing in the ACUS game book will have us asking for 0-point Amber characters, but that’s only because it was the closest choice among those offered on the form. Actually we’re going to play minimal attention to stats for the PCs, who are all simply normal humans. Even people like Iron Chef Chinese Chen Kenichi should avoid getting into knife fights with Amberites! *grin*

December 1, 2003: 9:45 pm: Cons

Well, registration for ACUS 2004 is now open, so I went ahead and registered. Now I guess Jenn and I need to get the description finished for the game we’re hoping to run….

November 16, 2003: 8:25 pm: Cons

In case anyone hadn’t heard, the next The Black Road has been scheduled, and registration is open:

The Black Road 2004 has changed dates from late May to late June — please make a note that due to hotel requirements we are now scheduled for the weekend of June 25-27. Our new (and lower!) hotel rate is $109.00 per night (deadline for hotel reservations will be on the website as soon as we have a firm date – we expect it to be sometime in mid-May).

Please note that the site has moved to: http://www.theblackroad.com

You can register at http://www.theblackroad.com/registration.html — please note that early bird registration closes on Jan 31st, at which point our prices will go up. And right now there’s a $5 discount for those that register as GM’s and submit a game to run. Games can be submitted at http://www.theblackroad.com/gamesubmission.html (the deadline for game submission is April 23rd).

Moving the con to June knocked $30 off last year’s room price, which is definitely a good thing, and we’re hoping that the change in dates will also make it easier for some more of you to make it out to Massachusetts for this year’s TBR.
